Vegetables
I found out about Planet Alert yesterday on International Women’s Day. It is a gift for me as a woman to know about this site on our day. It is a great initiative taken for the safety of Mother Nature, and I feel part of it being of the feminine gender.
So, As Human Beings, to start our 24hrs, we begin by eating. And, eating should be done with a healthy diet to be in good condition and live a positive life. That can be brought about by comprising vegetables in our food charts for the whole day. Vegetables have the energy, power and strength that is not contained in animals. Its basically all plants that covers the vegetable family and its completely coming from the agriculture. We ought to respect that beauty of farming because we love nature, and we must accept that it is providing us with the daily food without which it is not possible to continue the 24hrs.
Animals are not going to get us anywhere. It is just an attraction for the eyes, but it is not food for soul. It doesn’t really fill our stomach. We will never be gratified of animal intake. It is a realization we come to in order to live a comfortable life and be in shape. You would rather keep animals as pets.
My mother is a vegetarian for the past few years, I also prefer vegetables, lentils for my daily diet. It is important to maintain a robust well being that we eat nutritious food for our nourishment and also to support and sustain ourselves.
Other Ways of Living a Green Life
You might not at all times have the resources to live a green life but you can always THINK GREEN. Be Aware of yourselves, Respect Nature. Being materialistic is fine but to understand it is first before going on a splurge. Live Life based on requirement. Take a long walk in the midst of nature. Do Yoga, Meditation and Exercise. and Learn about Enlightenment. That will take you places and onto greener pastures.
You can also wear green clothes made out of vegetable dye and natural process. Use material made out of natural products like jute, bamboo.
Express yourself in the many ways that you can come out with for your love for Green. Be Creative.
Of course, if we don’t follow what we are sincerely aiming for, then its all useless and a waste of time. Artificially nothing can be achieved. U have to be serious and dedicated in your work.
Learn from others. Life is Juicy, Enjoy every slice of it!!!

I wake up at 9 A.M, realise that I had to be at office by 10 A.M for an important edit meet at office. I go to the washroom, remove the can of ‘Feel Fresh Spray’ and use a few drops of it to cleanse my mouth. On the pot, with my phone I will read my e- news papers. My bath is a quick wipe using a scented paper towel to wipe self clean and I put on clothes and pack my bag, take my swanky new bike and leave for work. World famous Bengaluru traffic is traumatising as ever, with the number of bikes increasing manifolds. Occasionally an ambulance passes by with such speed that you can actually fall off you bike due to the force in which it passes. Finally I reach office, rush to the wash room, put on my office clothes and dash to the all important meeting.
PHRASES USED ABOVE & THEIR MEANINGS
‘Feel Fresh Spray’ – to rinse my mouth ‘coz there’s no water that I can afford to use for such a thing like brushing.
News papers on my phone – ‘coz there are nothing called papers anymore.
Scented paper towel – ‘coz there’s no luxury as water to bathe.
Bikes – bi-cycles.
Ambulance – The ONLY private owned motor vehicle that can get supply of fuel *
* after a Bill passed by the Indian Government in interest of rescuing a precious life.
Office clothes – the fresh set of clothes that I change to after cycling for about an hour.
On the occasion of ‘Wold Earth Day’ this year (22nd April 2009), I just attempted to live a day in 2020.
Well, this peek into the future seems shocking! Isn’t it?
So what are WE doing about it?

Hi, this is Rahul Bose here.
This is actually the first time that I am communicating to you through a blog. In the past I have said that I am not really in favour of blogs because as celebrities we have a huge amount of interaction with the public anyway: through our work, our movies, premieres, interviews and ads seen on television, magazines & hoardings. After this whole bombardment I don’t think anybody would be really interested in my life outside of what they have already read about me.
I mean they know the fact that I am a international rugby player and that I have my own Foundation which focuses on education and child sexual abuse. I do social work and am making an exception this time with Planet Alert and on BigAdda.com.
I am making this exception because I sincerely believe that it is extremely important that you and I talk, that we discuss, that I express my views, and most importantly, for me to have a chance to explain to you how unbelievably easy it is for us to turn the planet around and make it more green.
The reason I say this is because most of the causes that people talk about cannot be entirely controlled. For example, if somebody starts saying that the levels of HIV are increasing, that tuberculosis is spreading in southern Malawi, that Sudan is in debt most people will turn around and say, “Well, what can I do? What can be done if Sudan is in debt”? With climate change or global warming, we can all do something, even as I am speaking.
For example, just look around you. Is there any source of electricity in your house or office that has been left on and can be put off for the next 30 minutes? 20 minutes? Is the television on in the next room which you can switch off because you are now reading this blog? Whenever you leave your home, do you ensure that every single electrical supply is switched off, like your laptop charger?
Another reason is that a dominant part of India is hugely dependant on the climate for its living. 7 out of 10 Indians depend on the climate directly for their food and their children’s food. They are fisher folk, farmers and people who work in the forest. A single degree change in the temperature will wipe out nearly 50-60 million farming families in the country i.e. nearly 10% of our 560 million farming families. They will be wiped out because their crops will not grow to the extent to which they would grow were it one degree cooler. So if our environment is so fragile, these events must have started already. For you and me, what is the meaning of a late monsoon? Only, that there will be a water shortage in the building for 2 days a week, what was originally 1 day a week. It could mean that the power supply in the factory will be cut from 1 to 5 in the afternoon as compared to 1 to 4 earlier. But for people who rely on the rain to grow their produce and sell it, the sad truth is that they take loans which they cannot pay back or they starve or invariably the woman in the family starves, because she can’t bear to see her children starve and her husband has to work in the fields. If women starve, they cannot look after the family and even carry out simple things like breast feeding, you are starting a cycle that just never stops. In short, these people’s lives depend on the rain.
I don’t mean to preach, but I believe that this would be a great platform for us to connect and all of us can immediately start making a difference. From next week onwards, I will write on various issues such as power, water, natural resources, nature and other issues and suggest solutions which are extremely simple to implement and collectively very effective.
I would also like to tell you why I have taken up Planet Alert. They have called me the Alert Ambassador of the entire campaign. Planet Alert is not a campaign that believes in speaking a lot, but rather executing through actions. On the internet, there is a lot of internet social work, for example, ‘Contribute to XXX cause. Click Here’. There will be a website for five million people of say the ‘Save Africa Fund’ and the total contribution will be $2048. So each person has contributed say 2 paisa. Planet Alert is the first people’s movement in the country to combat climate change. Since climate change is going to be the HIV of the next decade, by this I mean that it is going to be the most important subject in our sub-conscious. Make no mistake, HIV is a very serious issue, but climate change will be a hot topic for the years to come.
Planet Alert has already carried out some wonderful initiatives over the last two months. The campaign kick-started with the 18 Hour Radiothon, hosted in 45 cities by Big 92.7 FM on June 5th 2009, World Environment Day. It was a massive campaign that spread across metros and B-Towns, to spread awareness on the rising danger of climate change through contests, quizzes, interviews and awareness drives throughout the course of the day. Luke Kenny and Amrita Rao came live to the studio and there were celebrity contributions from Deepika Padukone, Sushmita Sen, Dino Morea, Minissha Lamba and Gulshan Grover among others. On June 27th, an activation drive took place at Juhu Beach called Clean and Green, where concerned Mumbaikars came together to make Mumbai a cleaner and greener city to live in by collecting waste and dumping them into paper bags. All of the bags were later handed over to the BMC. On July 5th, the Agra Go Green Run took place from Hotel Jaypee Palace to Shilpgram. I was overwhelmed to see the response from the people of Agra who had come to participate in huge numbers. There were over 2400 people. I believe that it is not always about winning; it is about uniting to chase a dream and running for a cause. I was happy to see that Agra, a city that symbolizes the history of India, had united to run for a greener tomorrow.
You can see all the pictures of our initiatives on the Planet Alert community. I hope that you found my first blog interesting and look forward to connecting with you on www.planetalert.bigadda.com more often so that each and every one of us can have stake in building a greener and more sustainable tomorrow.
Remember, it’s late, but not too late.
